Bamboo Tori, 07.55 minutes video in loop and sound installation, 2019
In ‘Bamboo Tori’ I created an installation emerging from my conversation with the Nemagaridake bamboo and surrounding birds, questioning our human social and cultural contradictions and assumptions.During my fieldworks over last 4 years in Hokkaido, I have witnessed the desires in pressure within the communities to be city-centric and focusing on financial benefits. The different lifestyles and cultures that stay with cultural norm and assumption show disregard towards the natural environment. A self-concern with asserting ones own identity or obtaining power often contributs to conflict and destruction. To understand and respect the people and other species that we live alongside, though I cannot communicate in the language of flora and fauna, I listen and consider what is present.
